Moon – Sam Rockwell, Kevin Spacey

Directed by Duncan Jones, this sci-fi film follows Sam Bell who is about to finish his 3 year stint mining on the Moon. His sole companion is his computer Gery, voiced by Kevin Spacey and his only contact with the outside world are satellite messages from his family. With the feeling of isolation closing, an accident leads Sam to question himself and the world he knows. I haven’t seen this film but I will soon. It looks really interesting and it made number 1 on Rob’s top films of 2009. So check it out…NOW. Rated R. Out on Blu-Ray and DVD.

The Hurt Locker – Ralph Fiennes, Guy Pearce, Evangeline Lilly

Sadly, I haven’t seen this either but from what I hear, it’s awesome. It’s an intense portrayal of a highly skilled team who disarm bombs in the middle of combat. When a wild new sergeant joins the team, they are put to the test and have to fight to survive the last few days they have left on duty. This film was number 4 on Rob’s best of 2009. I hear it’s a good old action film that grips you and doesn’t let go until the end. Rated R. Out on Blu-Ray and DVD.

Departures – Masahiro Motoki, Ryoko Hirosue

After Daigo’s dreams of being a professional cellist are crushed, he takes on a new job as getting corpses ready for burial. He hides his new job from his wife because he feels it’s a shameful profession. As he follows his boss on jobs and sees how big of an impact what they do has on the grieving families, he comes to realizes that maybe this is exactly what he was meant to do in life. This film won an Academy Award for best foreign film. I watched it and I enjoyed it. It’s slow but interesting. I recommend you watch it. Rated PG-13. Out on DVD

Wooo! Moon is out! Hurt Locker is out! Now I just need to acquire some monies to buy them. Do you think Best Buy accepts gift cards to Circuit City?

I just rented Moon, gonna watch it later today. I also rented Whiteout and watched it last night, there are some screen plays that should never become movies, and whiteout was one of them

I just finished watching Moon and I liked it. It was interesting and different. Kevin Spacey as a computer though….waaay creepier than I thought it would be.
