Shutter Island

Another Super Bowl, another day of high profile commercials with something to prove. Ah, yes, I do love me some Super Bowl. But not because of the football. I love it for all the cool commercials that come out and movie trailers that might be showing for the first time. But I have to say, I am a little disappointed with this “new” trailer for Shutter Island that is set to air this upcoming Super Bowl Sunday. The trailer is reminiscent of the Avatar trailers where the director’s credientals take up almost as much screen time as the actual movie footage. BOO! The sad thing is that this tactic actually works, so trailer studios will continue to make these time-wasting trailers that do nothing but remind us of movies we have already seen instead of showing us footage from the movie we want to see.

There is a few quick shots of footage we have yet to see in the previous trailers, but nothing to make you change your mind about whether or not you will be seeing the movie.

Check out the trailer in the full post.

District 9 Neill Blomkamp

It’s not often that you hear anything but plugs from Hollywood directors for their upcoming movies. And when you do hear something other than a plug, it’s usually just some sort of circle jerk talk that includes name dropping and discussion on previous movie works of their own.

So it brings me great joy to hear such an amazing speech from a director that not only doesn’t aim to plug his movie, but really gets the mental gears moving and has me thinking about what he said for hours on end.

The speech I am talking about is this TEDx (an annual multidisciplinary conference) video featuring District 9 director, Neill Blomkamp in which he discusses his theories on alien life forms across the various surrounding galaxies, evolution of planets and life forms, and the growth of technology. That might sound like a lot of different topics to talk about, but they all correlate with one another. Just watch and you will see. It’s pretty mind blowing to think about what Neill has to say. Check it out in the full post.

Kick-Ass International Movie Trailer

You mean to tell me this movie actually has a story to it? Whaaaa?! You coulda fooled me from the previous trailers that just seemed to focus on the sole idea of regular people wearing costumes and taking out bad dudes.

Ok. I knew Kick-Ass had a deeper story than what the first few trailers advertised. I was just playing stupid in perspective for those who don’t know anything about Kick-Ass and its comic origins. So it’s good that this latest trailer shows some fresh footage and gives a better idea of the story behind the costumed heroes.

Check out the new trailer and my comments in the full post.

Clash Of The Titans Trailer

Sam Worthington should be eating well these days. It’s rare to turn on the TV these days and not see his face. And now he is the star of the highest grossing movie of all time. Not to shabby. I mean, I was offered the part of Jake Sully in Avatar but I had to turn James Cameron down because I wanted to do a little indie movie to build my critic favor.

But that’s besides the point. A new trailer for Clash Of The Titans has hit the interwebs, and we got it here for your viewing pleasure. So check it out in the full post.

‘A Man Who Was Superman’ Review

Posted in Reviews on Thursday, January 21st, 2010 by Veronica R. | Comments

A Man Who Was Superman

I was looking for something to watch and I came across this 2008 South Korean film. Since superman was in the title I knew I had to watch it. I was expecting a goofy superhero film but I got so much more.

Song Soo-Jung, played by Jun Ji-Hyun, is a bitter anti-social filmmaker who unhappily works for a small company producing human interest stories. She doesn’t really care about these people or their situations, but she does it in hopes of becoming Korea’s Oprah Winfrey. On the day she left her company to go to Africa to film lions, her camera bag is stolen. She chases the thief and is eventually helped by a guy who thinks he is Superman. He claims to have lost his super powers because someone stuck a piece of kryptonite in his brain but he refuses to let that stop him from helping people who need it the most.
